There is nothing quite like that feeling at the end of a big day on the mountain. Your legs are heavy, your cheeks are glowing from the cold, and all you can think about is a hot shower and a proper meal. Now imagine walking through the door of your chalet and being greeted by the smell of something wonderful already cooking in the kitchen. No reservations to worry about, no dragging tired legs through town in ski boots, no squeezing around a restaurant table that is never quite big enough for everyone. Just warmth, comfort, and food that has been made especially for you.
That is exactly what I offer as a private chef here in the Chamonix Valley, and honestly, once people experience it they always tell me they could never go back to doing a ski holiday without it.
If you have skied in Chamonix, you know the terrain here is something special. Whether you have spent the morning tackling the off-piste on the Grands Montets, cruising the beautiful runs at Brevent with those jaw-dropping views of Mont Blanc, or enjoying a family day on the sunny slopes of Flegere, by the time four o'clock rolls around you have earned your dinner. The last thing most people want to do is get changed and head back out into the cold to find a table at a busy restaurant.
With a private chef, your evening is taken care of before you even click out of your bindings. While you have been on the mountain, I have been shopping for the freshest ingredients, prepping in your kitchen, and getting everything ready so that by the time you are showered and settled with a glass of wine, dinner is well on its way.
It is not just about the evening meals, though. One of the things my clients love most is having breakfast ready and waiting for them. Getting a group of people fed and out the door in time to catch first lifts can be a mission in itself. I take care of all of that. Fresh coffee, eggs however you like them, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, porridge on a cold morning, the works. You just sit down, eat, and head out the door with full bellies and full energy for the day ahead. No queuing at a bakery, no arguments about whose turn it is to make toast. It is a small thing, but it makes such a difference to the flow of your holiday.
Chamonix has some lovely restaurants and I am always happy to recommend my favourites for your night off. But there is something about eating in your own chalet that a restaurant simply cannot match. You can eat when you want, not when you can get a booking. The kids can be in pyjamas already. You can have exactly what you fancy rather than choosing from a fixed menu. The wine is your own choice at shop prices rather than a restaurant markup. And if you want seconds, there are always seconds.
I cook everything from scratch in your kitchen using ingredients I have sourced locally that day. One evening it might be a hearty slow-cooked lamb shank with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables, perfect after a cold day on the hill. The next night could be something lighter like pan-seared sea bass with a fennel and citrus salad. I always work with my clients beforehand to plan menus that suit the whole group, so there are never any surprises at the table, only good ones.
Something I hear time and again from groups who book me is that having a private chef completely changes the dynamic of their holiday. Without the daily discussion of where to eat, who wants what, how to split the bill, and how to get a table for twelve on a Saturday night, everyone just relaxes. The evenings become the best part of the day. People linger at the table, open another bottle, swap stories about their runs. Families actually sit together without the stress of keeping kids entertained in a restaurant.
For groups of friends especially, this is a real game-changer. I have cooked for groups who come back to Chamonix every year and booking a private chef has become a non-negotiable part of the trip. They tell me it is what turns a good ski holiday into a great one.
Every group is different, and I genuinely enjoy working out what will make each booking special. Maybe you are a couple wanting a romantic luxury dinner with canapes and a three-course plated meal. Maybe you are a big group of mates who want generous portions of comfort food served family-style in the middle of the table. Maybe you have children who need feeding early and adults who want to eat later. I can do all of this and everything in between. You can take a look at my services page for more details on how I work, or browse some sample menus to get an idea of the kind of food I love to cook.
I also cater for every dietary requirement you can think of. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, allergies of any kind. I send a questionnaire before your stay so I can plan menus that work for absolutely everyone.
I have been cooking in the Chamonix Valley for years now and I still get a buzz from seeing the look on people's faces when they sit down to their first meal of the week. It is such a privilege to be part of someone's holiday, and I take a lot of pride in making sure the food lives up to the mountains. If you are planning a ski trip to Chamonix and want to make it that little bit more special, I would love to hear from you. Get in touch and let's start planning your perfect week of mountain food.
